Examinations & Assessment
Assessments and examinations have an important role in the process of learning and are used to assess what students have learned with regards to particular subjects.
Internal Assessment are carried out to ensure that students maximise their progress in order to secure the results needed to fulfil their aspirations over the coming years. As part of this strategy, we conduct regular internal assessments to provide students with formative feedback to guide them to their next steps. Students will also experience end of year exams or mock examinations that will allow students an opportunity to become comfortable with the examination process and the associated challenges this brings. In addition, they also provide teachers with the information they need about students’ knowledge and skills to inform future lesson intervention planning.
In order for students to maximise their performance in these assessments, we would expect them to prepare effectively and to put in a much effort as possible so that staff know exactly what support they will need to achieve or exceed their potential. This preparation should include a combination of independent study and attending/completing any relevant revision opportunities provided by the Academy.
To help our students to prepare for their forthcoming assessments, we shared strategies and effective revision techniques in workshops that both students and parents were able to attend. Please see a recording of this workshop.
GCSE, AS and A level examinations 2022 update
The Government has now provided schools with the following information in support of public examinations in 2022.
Students have access to information from 7th February to help focus their revision for summer GCSE, AS and A level exams, as part of a range of adaptations to maximise fairness following the disruption to learning caused by the pandemic.
We receive regular updates from Ofqual (Ofqual is the authority which regulates and accredits British examination boards offering GCSEs and GCE A Levels) & JCQ (JCQ is the regulatory body that oversees the administration of GCSE and A level exams) and are taking advice from regarding all external examinations. We will keep all student/parents/carers updated with any changes that are made.
The main series for external examinations are November, January and June, however additional vocational and practical exams (BTECs) will take place throughout the academic year.
Students will receive a personalised copy of their timetable as soon as this information is available.
I would like to thank you for your continued support in this very important year for your child and if you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact your child’s Year Manager.
