Revision & Interventions

Consett Academy provide bespoke intervention for all students in Year 11 in preparation for their final examinations. After every data collection, senior leaders and Heads of Department hold a case conference. In this case conference they discuss the progress of each student individually and create a bespoke intervention package for them until the next data collection. Interventions that can be included in this intervention package are:

Get Exam Ready (GER) Sessions

These are revision sessions after school which run from 3.10pm-4.10pm. In these session students focus on key subject content and exam preparation with subject specialists. Students will be directed to attend GER sessions for subjects where they require additional support to achieve their target grade.

Tutor Time

In Year 11, students take part in subject intervention as well as completing the statutory requirement for personal development. Students will be allocated a tutor group where they will focus on intervention for a subject which has been identified as an area where they need additional support from the most recent data collection.

Core PE Intervention

Where possible, we timetable subject specialists to be available at the same time the students have core PE. As students do not sit an examination in core PE, we will sometimes remove students from this to engage in small group intervention with a specialist for a subject where they require additional intervention.

Working Lunches

Many of our students choose to engage in further study and revision during their lunch break. To facilitate this, we offer a classroom staffed by subject specialists who can support students with their revision and give further explanation on topics where they may not be confident.

Saturday and Holiday Revision

Our staff are committed to supporting students achieve the best possible outcomes. As such, many of our staff run revision sessions on a Saturday or during school holidays to further support our students.

Student Progress Meetings

Where the progress of a student is of concern, parents and carers will be invited into school for a meeting with a senior leader. Here, the progress of the student will be discussed, as well as any barriers to learning and any additional intervention required. The purpose of these meetings is to ensure that the school and parents/carers are confident that the school is offering the student with the required intervention and that parents/carers are ensuring the student is engaging with this.

Year 11 Residential

Each year a small cohort of Year 11 students are selected to attend a revision residential at Kingswood in Hexham. Here, students engage in revision sessions with subject specialists as well as a selection of outdoor adventurous activities to build resilience.
