Mental Health & Wellbeing

Consett Academy has a team of staff who are available to support students with their mental health and wellbeing in school. This includes Year Managers, Head of Student Support and the School Counsellor. Students are able to speak to their identified Year Managers around any concerns they may have or request for support and then a plan will be actioned. This could be in the form of Year Manager Intervention, a referral into the school counsellor or a referral to an external support network if necessary.

External Support Networks

Consett Academy can refer students to external support networks such as the Emotional Resilience Nurse, Mental Health and Support Team, Education Health Needs Team, Emotional Wellbeing and Effective Learning Team and CAMHS.

We are continuing to develop our offer of support to our students to ensure that the correct level of support is identified in a timely manner. We also may direct students to supportive online services such as KOOTH who can offer support when school is not open.

Consett Academy are investing in our Mental Health and Wellbeing Support Network and have identified the need to widen the offer of support available to students.

Our Head of Student Support – Mr Stevenson will be completing the Advanced Designated Mental Health Lead program this year. This will promote raising awareness and increasing capacity so mental health and wellbeing is something the whole school community can benefit from when required.

We will also be introducing a Mental Health First Aid Team to work alongside the Year Managers and School Counsellor, in order to provide further support to our required students.

Aside from in school support there is a variety of outside Mental Health and Wellbeing support agencies which families can liaise directly with if they feel additional support is needed.

At Consett Academy we aim to try support families in a variety of areas and a new opportunity for members of our school community to access support from the Financial Inclusion Support Team.

The Financial Inclusion Support Officer linked to Consett Academy can offer support to families around financial worries, signposting to employment and training, support with accessing free school meals, etc.

This support can be accessed directly by contacting Anna or speak to a Year Manager regarding further information.
